Above: The view of Tahoe from the summit on Hwy 50. I’ve always loved this part of the drive. We rented battery assist bikes from Volt Bycicles in South Lake Tahoe. They were $75 each for 4 hours. (Adam said they were one of the cheapest he could find.) It was a good location to rent from as well. They are very close to a popular spot on the lake. (Image from Google.)
They gave us a map and off we went—shakily though since it’s been a while.
Battery assist is AMAZING! You still pedal but the battery does all the pushing—so you don’t have to exert yourself AT ALL.
We rode through neighborhoods and on bike paths, past Camp Richardson on the Pope Bike path and then all the way back again, past the bike shop and into town right up to the state line. We figure we went about 10 miles round trip—my bum did not disagree.
I would totally do the bike thing again...and be better about slathering the sunscreen on.Tahoe is truly one of the prettiest lakes I’ve ever seen. The trees, the view, the clear water, the mountains...it’s all just wonderful. Tap the image below to see a short video.
After returning the bikes, we hopped in the car and found a place to lunch:
The Bistro at Edgewood
WHOA! Friends, we didn’t realize Edgewood was a resort (a VERY EXPENSIVE one.) We ALMOST felt like imposters in our sweaty bike adventure clothes. But in the end, who cares?!? Adam told his coworkers they need to play golf there. The course is lovely as are the grounds and amenities.
The food was delicious. And they seated us outside on the patio where we enjoyed the view and the cool weather. (The breakfast menu looks even better.)
