Valentine's at Vetro

Vetro is a glassblowing studio in Grapevine, Texas. They offer "Help Create" classes where you can have a hands-on experience making things like stemless wine glasses, paperweights, flared bowl, a flower etc. Adam signed us up for a Valentine's special.

We "made" these curly stemmed flowers.

"Help" create is the working word here. We thought we'd see a demonstration, and then have a very hands-on experience. Not so. Five minutes after arriving we were picking out colors, dipping a pole into hot glass, and stretching it to mix in the colors. The "expert" a very artsy sort of fellow, finished up the rest. He formed the flowers, detached them from the pole and we left the building about 20 minutes later. It felt like a "get-em in, get-em out" event.

The experience was fun because we'd never done it before—but I do wish we'd been allowed to do more than mix the color into the glass. I won't go back again because of that, and the price was a bit high at $165. (It included a box of chocolates and a drink.) But now we can say we've done it!
